Graycor Construction Completes Two ShowPlace ICON Theaters in the Bay Area

Graycor Construction Company is pleased to announce that it has expanded its relationship with the Kerasotes Theatres brand by completing two ShowPlace ICON theaters in the San Francisco Bay Area of California—at the Village of San Antonio Center in Mountain View and at Valley Fair in Santa Clara. In 2010 Kerasotes successfully opened its first ever ShowPlace ICON theater in Chicago, built by Graycor. During that time the theater operator embarked on its vision to expand its ultra-luxury theater line, teaming with Graycor to bring six new locations, coast-to-coast. Boston Showplace ICON has been opened for about a year and represents the first theater to be completed as part of this multi-theater expansion. Mountain View is the first ShowPlace ICON on the West Coast for the Kerasotes-Graycor partnership.

The new 50,000-square-foot theater at the Village of San Antonio Center includes 10 auditoriums with 1,142 total seats. The largest auditorium has 322 heated recliner seats stretching over two levels in front of a 74-foot mega screen. Outside of the auditoriums themselves, the theater includes chevron-patterned chairs, marble and gold coffee tables, Kriskadecor “art with chain” curtain, marble tile and modern light fixtures in its bar/restaurant lobby lounge.

“Kerasotes has shared a long-standing partnership with Graycor for nearly two decades,” states Kerasotes ShowPlace Theatres’ Vice President of Construction Michael Policicchio. “Managing our multiple ShowPlace ICON theater expansion program with locations across the country is no small feat, but Graycor continues to deliver every time by bringing best practices and lessons learned to our projects.”

Graycor employs its Continuous Improvement Process and the Graycor Way to build a better theater each time, delivering a high level of quality by applying consistent management practices. For the Mountain View project, the Graycor team coordinated with core and shell developers throughout the process, from preconstruction through construction. The team completed an extensive checklist and Plan Grid punch for ICON to ensure all tenant work letter conditions were met. They also ensured that the tenant space was well-prepared for interior work to begin by thoroughly reviewing the water, electrical and projection platforms. Early coordination of beverage conduits helped identify endpoints and ensured a smooth installation process of the beverage lines.

“We are privileged to have been entrusted by Kerasotes with a project of this significance. Our team has done a great job of applying best practices to enhance the delivery of each ShowPlace ICON theaters,” says Brian Feckler, Graycor’s Construction Manager overseeing the theater expansion program.

ShowPlace ICON at Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara, California is the latest theater completed for Kerasotes. This 68,000-square-foot, 10-screen and 1,440-seat theater boasting lobby ordering terminals recently held its grand opening on January 17, 2019, just days after showcasing free movies for the public. The ShowPlace ICON at the Boro in Tysons Corner in Tysons, VA will start construction in early 2019, while plans continue for two more theaters.
